SPL

My mentorship experience was very helpful, and I learned a lot. Through meeting with the Speech and Language Pathologist, I learned about her duties and what being a SLP will take. We talked about college, graduate and undergraduate programs, and various internships that are helpful to me. I feel so much more prepared for my future. I also had the great opportunity of shadowing her. This consisted of watching her interactions with children, how she dealt with them, and the ways that she improved their speaking skills over time.

As a Speech and Language Pathologist, I was worried that I wouldn't know enough to be able to correctly help the children. This mentorship gave me confidence that I will be prepared through undergraduate and graduate studies to be able to do what she does now. She is a traveling SLP, which means that she stays for a year or two in one school and then moves to another school. I was very thankful that I had the opportunity to learn about the different types of SLPs, and that I had the ability to learn and shadow from Ms. Heidi.
