Biomed Mentorship
Throughout my biomed mentorship journey, I had wonderful learning experiences in many departments of the hospital. In radiology I learned about nuclear particles that are injected into the body for various scans. I was able to examine different scans of the body to observe various health problems, such as a pneumonia. I was also able to observe a lung biopsy and the removal of a catheter.
Furthermore, I experienced the rush of urgent care. These nights showed me the various injuries and illnesses that send people to urgent care, such as horse injuries and strep throat. Additionally, I was able to witness triage several times.
As I shadowed the pediatric hospitalist, I was able to learn of the special precautions taken for babies going through drug withdrawal and jaundice. I witnessed the cleaning of several sick and healthy babies, and the care shown toward each and every one.
Lastly, I was able to observe the preliminary tests done at the OBGYN office. I enjoyed learning about the exams done for every pregnant woman and the routine appointments that must be done, such as the urine tests for various substances.
Overall, I am very appreciative of this shadowing experience, especially because it allowed me to realize that my true passion was not in the medical field, but in the business world. I learned and experienced so much in these various medical departments, and I am very thankful.
