Dr. Larry Gaston, Dermatology
My internship as a scribe for Dr. Larry Gaston, was an experience like no other. I learned firsthand what it is like to be a dermatologist and treat patients daily. He taught me in depth knowledge on the integumentary system and the diseases that effect it. I learned about common skin problems including acne, rosacea, warts and psoriasis. My favorite part was watching surgeries such as removing a cyst and mole biopsies. Combining my firsthand experience and my extensive research, I learned a lot about dermatology this summer. While working at the office, I learned about the drugs used to treat patients through sales representatives for various drug companies. In addition to learning about dermatology, I discovered the multitude of opportunities to improve the medical field, which inspires me to pursue biomedical engineering. The opportunity to intern this past summer was beneficial and has furthered my interest in the medical field.
