Speech Pathology

Being a part of this mentorship program has been a great experience. It has allowed me to observe and experience the field of speech pathology in an elementary school. Even though I was just in an elementary school environment, I've learned so much about the whole field of speech pathology. There are many job opportunities when it comes to this career. I could work in homes, schools and hospitals. The job is also in high demand of needed employees.

Ms. Brudish, my mentor, did an amazing job of teaching me about the speech world. She taught me about all the types of struggles people have with speech, as well as what to do to fix these struggles. she also helped me decide what I should major in and what I need to do to pursue becoming a speech pathologist. Being able to watch her and help her has given me a better understanding of what my job would be if I decided to go into the field.

Even though I shadowed Mrs. Brudish in a school, I would rather work in a hospital environment. Being around kids twenty-four seven just does not seem like the job for me. Being in a hospital I will work with all different types of people. Without the mentorship program, I wouldn't have know what environment I would rather work in.

I'm very thankful to have been a part of this program. It was an amazing opportunity for me. I could not have asked for a better mentor. She provided me with so much information for my future. I would recommend to any students who have the chance to do the program to take advantage of it. It is a great way to help students narrow down their ideal jobs. For me, the mentorship program reinsured that I still want to be a speech pathologist.
