Prince Frederick Animal Hospital
Through this program I was able to experience the field of Veterinary Medicine and expose myself to this future career path. I was given the opportunity to see firsthand the role of a veterinarian, veterinarian technician, and the staff that supports them. I was able to follow veterinarian technicians to observe appointments and shadow during surgical procedures. Some of the surgeries consisted of cesarean section, spays, neuters, dental work, and mass removals. I was able to do hands on medication preparation by drawing up vaccines into syringes and assist in performing blood analytsis tests. I was educated on the reasons for the vaccinations and provided information on the best educational path I should pursue to achieve my veterinarian degree.
At the Prince Frderick Animal Hospital, I enjoyed the environment and the staff who were very friendly and welcoming. I appreciated the time people took to educate me on the aspects of Veterinarian Medicine. My advice to future candidats for this tyupe of placement in the CTA program is to do their mentorship when they're 18 years of age if they can because then they are allowed to be in the surgery room with the anesthesia gas in accordance to the OSHA regulations. Overall, this mentorship opportunity has solidified my desire to pursue a career in Veterinarian Medicine and I am very grateful for having been selected for this program.
