KConway Physical Therapy

During the months of November and December I had the opportunity to job shadow at KConway Physical Therapy office. This experience has given me kowledge of the job responsibilities a physical therapist technician has. My placement included shadowing four different technicians. By shadowing multiple technicians I was able to see the different ways each technician worked. A physical therapist technician oversees and monitors the patient's completion generic exercises before they are seen by the physical therapist for manual stretching. The tchnicians are also in charge of setting each patient up on the electrical stem heating or cooling machine, as well as, giving the patients any extra attention they need during their visit.

I was able to help some of the patients with their exercises by having the physical therapist guide the patient back as I toss them a ball to catch. During the last week of being at KConway I got hands on experience setting up the patient for their electrical stem. By setting up this patient I put on the pads that isolated the pain and connected them to the electrical stimulaiton machine. This was a unique experience because in the medical field it is is hard to get involved as a mentee due to insurance restrictions. I enjoyed the mentorship program and the experience it gave me. I may use this experience to seek employment during college in a physical therapy office as a technician. To become a technician requires a high school diploma and training after you are hired. I see this as an opportunity to gain valuable experience and further my interest in a career as a physical therapist.
